Monday Readings

The National Writers Union will be hosting a reading and open mic on Monday, November 21, starting at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held both in person and on Zoom (information below).

Our featured reader this month will be Dan Stuart. Dan, who is perhaps best known for having been the lead singer in the “unruly yet internationally pedestalized band Green on Red” during the 1980s, will be reading from his newly published novel, Marlowe's Revenge. The novel, the third in a trilogy, is described as a pulpy, comic thriller filled with distinctly Southwestern characters. It follows the adventures of Dan’s alter ego, Marlowe Billings, as he returns to Tucson in the '90s to get clean and save a failing marriage. Staving off demons with countless rounds of golf, he stumbles into his hometown's crime-ridden underbelly, where old friends and a brewing cartel war threaten his sobriety, his sanity, and his life.

Dan and Marlow’s Revenge were both featured in the October 13 cover story of Tucson Weekly (

The open mic is for spoken word only, but is open to all forms of spoken word (fiction, essays, poetry, articles, polemics, etc.)

The meeting will be held at the Pima Area Labor Federation Office at 5630 E Pima St. in Tucson, which is a block east of Craycroft Road (Pima is between Grant and Speedway). It is on the south side of the street and ample parking is available both behind the building and on its east side. There is also limited parking directly in front of the building.
