Notes for Writers

The National Writers Union will be hosting a reading and open mic on Monday, October 19, starting at 6:00 p.m. at 2955 E. Broadway in Tucson.

This month our featured reader will be the writer J. Jason Hicks, who will be discussing his fiction and non-fiction works. Jason was born in Illinois and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, where he studied English Literature, World Religions, and Early Christianity with an emphasis on classical literature. After a thirty year long career in technology he returned to his first love and wrote his first novel, Ruinwaster’s Bane: Book One of The Annals of the Last Emissary. He followed that with Book Two in this epic high fantasy series, The Earthmight War. Jason’s first nonfiction book, The War of Leadership: Hard Lessons and Practical Truths for Surviving in and Beyond Leadership, calls back to those lessons learned over his thirty years in the corporate world. Jason lives in Tucson, Arizona, and is currently working on Book Three in The Annals of the Last Emissary.

The open mic is for spoken word only, but is open to all forms of spoken word (fiction, essays, poetry, articles, polemics, etc.). So bring something to read!

The event will be held at the UFCW Union Hall at 2955 E. Broadway. This is on the north side of Broadway, immediately west of the large and fancy Chase Bank, which is on the northwest corner of Broadway and Country Club Road. Parking and entry are from the rear.
